Description
HAWTHORN COTTAGE STUDIO Hawthorn Cottage Studio nestles in the picturesque village of Thorpe in a beautiful and tranquil location - a romantic retreat for couples who want to get away from it all.
Thorpe is in the southern part of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire where the landscape is more gentle, has rolling hills, with lots of hedges, woodland and stone walls which all makes for stunning countryside.
The oak beamed, limestone studio nestles behind Thorpe Church, has superb open views down the valley, faces south so enjoys the sun for most of the day.
The garden can be used to either have a barbecue or simply relax with your glass of wine.
The studio is compact but with everything you will need for your short break or holiday. Bed linen (bed made up for arrival), towels, tea towels, heating are all included in the cost. It has a double bed, shower, cooker, microwave, TV, Fridge (small freezer section), use of a washing machine, parking, use of the garden with seating. (Complimentary wine for those staying 7 days or more) The studio is idyllically situated with excellent walking from the door in numerous directions over the hills and through the valleys. For a leisurely stroll Dovedale is just 5 – 10 minutes away and for the more adventurous the Limestone Way runs directly behind the studio.
Thorpe Cloud which is a high point sitting behind the village is always a challenge but worth the views! ‘The Other Boleyn Sister’ starring Scarlett Johansson, ‘Robin Hood’ starring Russell Crow have all been recently filmed in Thorpe, on the pastures under Thorpe Cloud.
WHAT TO SEE & DO IN THE AREA The market town of Ashbourne is around 3 miles away. Here there are many restaurants in which to eat Chinese, Italian, Indian, Thai and or course traditional English. Food shopping can also be done here – Waitrose, Sainsburys, M & S, Co-op, also lots of shops selling local produce.
Thorpe is surrounded by many small villages such as Tissington owned by the Fitzherbert Family, Ilam with its National Trust Hall and grounds, Wetton, Alstonefield, Parwich, Milldale etc. Many of the villages have excellent pub food and cafes where you can treat yourself to local home cooked produce.
A little further away are Chatsworth House (owned by the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire), Haddon Hall, Alton Towers (for those thrill seekers out there!), Kedleston Hall, Buxton Opera House, Bakewell (renowned for its market), Carsington Water (large reservoir with activities or walking) many more National Trust properties and interesting places to visit.
We are minutes away from the Tissington Trail which is a disused rail line now a cycling and walking path which will take you down to Ashbourne or up into the Peak District for many miles.
