Luxury Holiday Cottages In Chatsworth

Chatsworth House in Derbyshire is the family seat of the Cavendish family and has been the magnificent home of the Dukes of Devonshire for centuries. The Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, who now lives in the grounds of the Chatsworth estate, was born one of the Mitford girls and as well as writing many books on her family history has turned Chatsworth into a hugely successful business with restaurants, souvenir shops, farm stores, adventure playgrounds and tea-rooms. But none of this has taken away from the grandeur and splendour of this astonishingly beautiful residence, often called the Palace of the Peaks. The house has one of the best collections of fine art and furniture in the country and has played host to many a period costume drama looking for a splendid setting. In the gardens there are mazes, waterfalls, greenhouses and acres of rolling parkland where deer and sheep roam at will.  Staying in one of the Peak District luxury cottages that are pet-friendly will give you chance to explore the lush, green pastures of Chatsworth where the River Derwent flows and there are plenty of picnic sites.   Chatsworth is surrounded by picture-postcard pretty villages with cottages built from the mellow Derbyshire stone and it is here that you will find some of our most appealling luxury holiday cottages. Baslow is the nearest village to Chatsworth and here you will find an old Norman church, a pretty bridge that crosses the river and some charming houses and flourishing restaurants and tea-rooms. Explore nearby Bakewell where you can try the famous Bakewell pudding or pay to have one sent by post to anywhere in the world. Bakewell also has some truly wonderful shops selling luxury clothes, china, outdoor gear and sportswear. There is a thriving weekly market held in Bakewell every Monday and on the same day the town plays host to an ancient cattle market until recently held in the market square but now housed in a specially constructed building near the river and where you can watch the farmers bidding for their livestock and take in some of the atmosphere of real country life. In nearby Pilsley you can find the farm shop for Chatsworth where all the produce on sale has been grown or raised on the estate. Try some of their home-reared lamb or pick up a jar of honey or pickles and get a real taste of the country. Adjoining the farm shop is a restaurant serving produce also from the estate, popular with locals and tourists alike. Peak District luxury cottages that are child-friendly are a good choice here as there is so much for the children to do in and around Chatsworth and whilst they may not want to look at the Rembrandts they will definitely love the adventure playground and petting farm where there you can watch a milking display and feed the animals.
Locals are proud to have Chatsworth on their doorstep and will welcome you when you stay in one of the luxury holiday cottages close by.
