Luxury Holiday Cottages In Derby

With the Peak District National Park only a few miles to the north and the National Forest a short distance away to the south Derby has lovely countryside right on its doorstep and is the perfect place to search for luxury country cottages. Although a city, Derby still has the feel of a large market town and with plenty of open space, wonderful parks and the River Derwent running north to south through the city, it has been described as a 'city in the countryside'. Derby has a number of public parks, many Victorian in origin and in fact Derby was home to the first public park in the country, The Arboretum, which lies to the south of the city centre and is said to have been the inspiration for New York’s Central Park.
If you are looking for some culture in Derby the city’s Museum and Art Gallery holds the world's largest collection of paintings by Joseph Wright and Pickford's House Museum portrays life as it was lived about 200 years ago. Derby is one of only five UK cities to have a UNESCO World Heritage Site at Derwent Valley Mills, confirming the outstanding importance of the area. The stunningly beautiful valley starts in Derby and follows the Derwent River, through Darley Abbey up into Matlock, the perfect place to find luxury holiday cottages in the Peak District.
