Luxury Holiday Cottages In Whaley Bridge

Known as the Gateway to the Goyt Valley, Whalley Bridge is an attractive small town in the High Peak, an area of outstanding natural beauty which is a magnet for walkers, climber and tourists. The town stands at the end of the Peak Forest Canal, which cuts through the narrow valley parallel to the main road and railway. Many visitors to the area come for the attraction that the canals bring and there is a thriving barge-restaurant base at the canal head. The parish church of St James, Taxal stands on a site a mile from the town centre and was established in the twelfth century. Parts of the tower may date back to that time, although much of the church was rebuilt in the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries
Whaley Bridge has an annual carnival week during which the 'Whaley Water Weekend', started at the Millennium, takes place. This is followed by traditional well dressing and terminates with the popular 'Rose Queen procession' in June each year. Whalley Bridge has a good selection of specialist local shops as well as major retail outlets; only a few miles from Buxton and within a half hour’s drive of Manchester there is plenty to do. But many visitors looking for luxury holiday cottages in Whalley Bridge will be happy to simply take in the sights of the Peak District.
