Description
The Old Laundry is in the grounds of Sturston Hall, a 17thC Country House.  Sturston is a hamlet situated about 1 mile east of the market town of Ashbourne, The Gateway to the Peak District National Park.  Dovedale, the Manifold Valley and Tissington Trail are all within a short drive. Some of the great houses of England are nearby: Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, several National Trust properties including Hardwick Hall, Sudbury Hall and Calke Abbey.

The self catering cottage accommodation is in a grade II listed barn, once used as the laundry for Sturston Hall, a grade II listed 17th century country house, surrounded by open countryside. The buildings were converted into a self catering cottage in 2002 to the highest standard and provide high quality accommodation.  The house is reached by a single track lane with high hedges, but there is ample parking on the large gravel drive at the front of the house. There are plenty of walks from the house and cottage into Ashbourne or the surrounding Derbyshire countryside.

A local Derbyshire artist has painted murals of farm animals and birds (the last occupants before the conversion) on the walls of The Old Laundry adding charm and character to the building.

Ashbourne is a small market town of great character in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales. There are several specialist food shops which sell, amongst other things, local cheeses and meat. There are numerous antique shops, craft shops and art galleries. Two markets are held weekly, on Thursday and Saturday and a farmers market once a month. The Royal Green Man and Blacks Head is the Georgian coaching inn which stands in the centre of town, providing good food .There are many other restaurants, wine bars and cafes in town.

Plenty of cosy village pubs are within easy reach of The Old Laundry.
