The Signalman and other Ghost Stories

Posted on Wednesday, 07 October 2009 01:08PM by Simon Corble
Found theatre, newly relocated from Manchester to the village of Monyash, set out on a spine-chilling tour of ghost stories, especially for the "Haunted Season", with Charles’ Dickens’ The Signalman as the main feature. Starting with a local venue -

The Village Hall , in Youlgrave on Saturday 24th October at 8pm.

(If you miss it here, then you can catch it at Sheffield’s tiny gem of The Lantern Theatre on 20th / 21st November)

Tickets are £8 and are bookable by calling 01629 813 083

The evening is directed by and stars Simon Corble in his role as Victorian psychic investigator, Montagu Furzan, who is seeking to unravel the mysteries behind three ghost stories by Dickens and M.R. James. The co-star is Paul Sullivan, who plays both The Signalman and The Madman in the other offering from Charles Dickens.

Paul has numerous T.V. appearances under his belt, including Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Brookside, while Simon is best known for co-creating the stage version of The 39 Steps, the latest version of which is enjoying a long run in London’s West End as well as on Broadway and in theatres world-wide.

The Signalman was trialled before audiences in Buxton last year, where it sold out two evenings at The Paupers’ Pit Theatre, an experience which has given the creative team the confidence to take the newly-expanded show further afield. The story concerns an isolated railway worker, haunted by a strange spectre that appears at the mouth of a dark and forbidding tunnel. Together, Furzan and The Signalman have to work out the enigma: What is it warning against?… Tragically, they find out just too late.

Found Theatre are really pleased to be teaming up with the local venue of Youlgrave’s Village Hall, which they would like to make a starting point for many future tours.
